Reclaimed Oak Beams are large beams of oak which have been removed from a building to be used again. This is where the term “reclaimed” originates from, as the beams are claimed by someone else. This idea is a method of recycling an old product to produce something which can be used again, to produce something new. Unfortunately this demand has led to an increase in some sellers trying to pass newer wood off as antique. One of the main reasons some are able to get away with this is because it is very difficult to identify the difference in older materials unless the wood is cut open and looked at. This process can leave the material in a much less desirable state, so is rarely done.
